What is this event about?
This event is about a group of yoga teachers, practitioners, supporters and friends who got together and decided to organize a day of free yoga classes to these special groups of people: : the seniors - aged 50 years and above and beginners / first timers to yoga : the blind : the hearing and speech impaired : the critically and terminally ill : stroke patients and the physically disabled : those with excess weight- BMI of 25 and above : families and couples/partners : those who hate to stretch : sports conditioning and rehabilitation for sportspersons/athletes
Why are we doing this?
On the Mat and Beyond – a healing practice for all is organized to provide an opportunity to those who, on any regular day, would not be able to practice because the pace in a regular class is not suitable for them or a suitable class is not available. They would normally have to engage the services of a teacher for a private session, which can be costly, or, they just forgo the practice. Ironically, these are the people who need the practice more.
What are our objectives?
As practitioners we know that a yoga practice teaches a person to understand and connect with his/her body, what it can and cannot do. He/she learns to accept his/her limitations and explore his/her potential. With every limitation, there is potential and hope. We believe in that potential. We want to share our knowledge and skills with the participants so they could take the practice home with them. Through this event we hope to extend love and compassion transcending race and religion, tighten family ties and encourage healthy living.
How can you participate?
